The idea of a date night in Brisbane

I was asked recently to share my best tips for having a great date night in Brisbane, and I love the idea of sharing ideas with other couples.

Turns out, the idea of date night is not just for couples. I have a few single friends who are always keen to find someone to go on a date with, so thought you might like some tips too!

Before you can have a great date night, you need to answer the question: what kind of date is this going to be? Is it a first date, or a chance to get together with that person you met at trivia last week? Do they like doing adventurous activities and trying new things – or do they prefer something more low key where you can chat and get to know each other better?

Here are some ideas for different kinds of dates. I hope one catches your eye! (Oh, and yes, I am totally happy to come along on all of these.)

1. Visit your local library – most libraries now have programs that change every few months with movies, music and special guests  , so check what they offer before you make a visit.

2. Visit a local park for a picnic – bring some wine, cheese and treats along with a blanket, or have a home-made picnic in your backyard – whatever you prefer is fine as long as it’s something that interests both of you.

3. Take up an interest together – find something that sparks your curiosity and learn about this new interest together! This could be anything from skydiving to classical music – just have fun discovering something new together!

4. Check out one of the many free events happening around Brisbane during February – there are plenty of interesting talks, exhibitions and activities happening around Brisbane at this time , so check online to see what might suit you best!

5. If you are planning to have kids in the near future, why not visit a market where children play? As parents ourselves, we know how much fun it is playing with the children at these type of gatherings .

6. If your date falls on a weekend, why not check out what’s happening in your local area ? Many councils will have free activities that are suitable for all ages. You could also consider visiting one of Brisbane’s many community markets , if there is one close by!

Finally, keep an eye out for any events coming up at your favourite restaurant – this may be something like “All You Can Eat Prawns” or “Thai Buffet Night”, which means you can save some money to help pay for the babysitter!
